In order to allow them to carry out Ramadan in good conditions, the President of Republic, Gnassingbé Eyadèma gave them an important quantity of provisions. The gift was handed over to the beneficiaries during a ceremony held at the warehouse of the OSAT (Observatory for Food Security in Togo) at Agbadahonou in Lomé last Friday. It was under the supervision of the Prime Minister, Mr. Koffi Sama who was surrounded on the occasion by some Government Officials. Were also present, several Muslims and their dignitaries. Estimated at 75,000,000 F CFA, the gift is made up of 4,080 sacks of maize, 2,043 sacks of rice, 1,331 cartons of sugar and 161 cartons of milk. It will surely help Togo Muslims, especially the destitute ones to observe Ramadan easily. Addressing the audience on the occasion, the Prime Minister underscored the sense of share of President Eyadèma who as usual remembers the Muslim Community in these crucial periods. «As a faithful, the Head of State knows that Ramadan is the moment of fast, prayers and share», stated Prime Minister Sama. Further, he urged them to do their utmost so as to allow the most underprivileged Muslims to be in priority taken into account during their distribution. On his part, the Vice-Chairman of the «UMT» (Togo Muslim Union), Mr. Inoussa Bouraïma on behalf of his Community praised the Head of State’s good qualities. According to him, it is for the third time that President Eyadèma gives them provisions so as to alleviate their sufferings during the Ramadan fasting. Mr. Inoussa Bouraïma assured the Prime Minister that instructions will be given to Imams to allow the share to be fair so as to reach the most destitute people.
