The Muslim community worldwide celebrated the Ramadan or Aïd El-Fitr feast last September 30. The event climaxed with great prayers in Lomé and in the inland areas of the country. In Lomé, the prayer session took place on Lycée de Tokoin playground in the presence of the Head of State, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé; the Speaker of the National Assembly, El Hadj Abass Bonfoh; the Prime Minister, Gilbert Fossoun Houngbo and Government Officials as well as various other personalities. The Imam of the great mosque, El Hadj Youssouf Guimba led the prayer.
After a month’s fast, the Muslim community lifted up the name of Allah higher through great prayers nationwide. In Lomé, the playground of Lycée de Tokoin hosted the event. Forgiveness, peace and joy were the keynote of the celebration. In his preaching, the Imam of the great central mosque, El Hadj Youssouf Guimba expressed gratitude to Allah for having mercy on his people during the period of the fast. He observed that the fast is a recommendation from God to enable Muslims to redouble fervour in their worship.
«This recommendation is not only to strengthen Muslims’ relations with Allah but also to increase social assistance. During the Ramadan period, wealthy Muslims assist the needy ones», stressed El Hadj Youssouf Guimba.
In his prayer, the Chairman of the Togolese Muslim Union, Mr. Inoussa Bouraïma was grateful to Allah for keeping them healthy during the Ramadan fast. Therefore, he besought God’s blessing on Togo people and the Government so that the reconciliation process undertaken by President Faure Gnassingbe be successful in the best interests of everybody.
By the way, he prayed Allah to protect our country from natural disasters.
«Today, we request God to spare us from these evil deeds and protect Togo and all her people», said Mr. Inoussa Bouraïma.
He also called upon the Allah devotees to act relentlessly in good faith for, he noted, the Merciful God hears the prayers of those who are good-hearted.
After the prayer, the Muslims went on with the feast in their houses, streets and rejoicing places. The beach of Lomé was thronged with people, irrespective of age and race who were there to celebrate the event around their meal and games. They enjoyed themselves and danced to various rhythms of the music.
