On 4 November 2019 in Kosyam, Florence Parly announced “Bourgou IV,” a counterterrorism operation in the tri-border area by two Burkinabè military units with support from Barkhane. Referring to earlier operations, including one that reportedly neutralized around thirty jihadists in Mali, she advocated broader cooperation involving police, gendarmerie and ECOWAS countries through the 3S partnership for the Sahel, to be established from late 2019.
