Roch Marc Christian Kaboré returned from the Vatican on 21 October 2016 after a visit lasting less than 72 hours, which he described as highly successful. He secured Pope Francis’s prayers for cohesion in Burkina Faso and obtained Italy’s commitment to provide training and assistance in counter-terrorism. He also asked the Vatican to increase financial support for the Fondation Jean-Paul II pour le Sahel and OCADES, particularly in agriculture, health, education, and poverty reduction, and proposed bringing Italian small and medium-sized enterprises together with businesses and students in Ouagadougou.
