Muslims celebrated Eid al-Adha last Sunday
• Event climaxed with great prayer session in presence of President Faure Gnassingbé
The Muslims all over the world celebrated Eid al-Adha last Sunday. The event climaxed with a great prayer session on the playground of the Senior Secondary School of Tokoin-Centre in Lomé in the presence of President Faure Gnassingbé.
A great prayer session and popular rejoicings marked the Eid al-Adha observed by the Muslim community across the world and particularly in Togo on 6th November 2011. In Lomé, the Senior Secondary School of Tokoin-Centre was the venue for the prayer session.
The President of the Republic, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, honored the celebration with his presence. He was accompanied by government members and several other personalities. Organized by the Togo Muslims' Union (UMT), the prayer started around 9 a.m., shortly after the arrival of the Head of State. It was led by the Lomé Central Mosque Imam Assistant, El Hadj Zakari Agoro. He entreated Allah to shower blessings on Muslims and the entire vulnerable and destitute Muslim community countrywide. He was grateful to President Faure Gnassingbé for contributing to the welfare of Muslims. He also implored Allah to make peace prevail in Togo and in the world.
As for the Acting Chairman of the UMT, El Hadj Inoussa Bouraïma, he pleaded with the merciful Allah for peace in Togo and welfare of the people. The event brought together a great crowd of Muslims, including the Speaker of the National Assembly, El Hadj Abass Bonfoh.
It should be noted that similar prayer sessions were held in all the quarters of Lomé and in the inland areas of the country. The celebration continued with popular rejoicings in houses, bars, on the beach, etc., with music, dancing, games, and other leisure activities.
