The feast of sheep or Tabaski was celebrated in the whole world and particularly in Lome by Muslims last Friday, 22nd February. A prayer service inside the Senior Secondary School of Tokoin, led by Imam Youssif Gimba marked the ceremony. The sign of the feast this year was Benediction of Allah and Solidarity among people.
The prime Minister, Mr Agbéyomé Kodjo, Minister of Interior, Gal Sizing Walla, Minister of Public Service, Work and Employment, Mr Kokou Tozoun, District Commissioner of Golfe, Mr Komlan Mally and thousands of Islam believers were present during the prayer which occurred in an atmosphere of elation, devoutness and obedience to God. The Imam had explained Tabaski as a commemoration of Abraham's deed. In fact, Abraham, obediently was ready to sacrifice his only son as ordered by God. When he was about to do so, God provided a ram at the place of the child. The Imam in his sermon • was inspired by the chapter of Pilgrimage, verse 37 from the holy Koran. He has then besought God's blessing upon the Head of State and Togolese government and prayed for peace and unity among Togolese people. He has also asked God for plenty pain in order to have enough food in the country. At the end of the prayer, Imam Youssif symbolically slaughtered a sheep to begin the festivities, what all Muslim families repeated when they got back home.
In the afternoon, there were popular rejoicings in several parts of Lome town and many people went to the beach.
