The whole Muslim community in Togo celebrated the Ramadan or Aïd El Fitr in merriment and reconciliation last Thursday. On that occasion, Muslims went to various places so as to thank Allah through their prayers. The Head of State, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé also attended the prayer of Aïd El Fitr at the SSS (Senior Secondary School) of Tokoin in Lomé.
The Ramadan was celebrated throughout our country last Thursday. The special prayer of Aïd El Fitr was said on the playground of the SSS of Tokoin in Lomé. Were also present, the President of Republic, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé who was surrounded by the Prime Minister, Mr. Edem Kodjo; the Speaker of the National Assembly, El Hadj Abass Bonfoh, some Government Officials and several Muslim Dignitaries.
In his sermon, the top Imam of the Great Mosque of Lomé, El Hadj Mama Youssouf Guimba paid homage to Allah, the merciful God for having allowed them to observe successfully the fast of the blessed month as required by their Prophet Muhammad. He then besought God’s grace for the President of Republic so that He may grant him good health, blessing, especially wisdom in the management of the State affairs. He also prayed God to reward the Head of State for his assistance to the Muslim community. He did not fail to pray Allah to protect the whole Togo people.
Besides, El Hadj Guimba prayed in favour of all the Muslims for the forgiveness of their sins and requested them to give up animosity in order to have access to the kingdom of Allah. Further, he prayed for the reinforcement of brotherly relationship between the Muslims themselves and the other communities in Togo and in the entire world.
Another prayer was said at the stadium of Agoènyivé. It was led by the Imam of the Central Mosque of the said locality, El Hadj Saïdou Djori in presence of the Headman Togbui Sédzro II as well as a crowd of Muslims and guests.
It was an occasion for the Mohammedans to be grateful to Allah for having granted them good health, protection and blessing during the period of fast In his preaching based on «Aallah» and «Douha», he noted the greatness, kindness and justice of God. «Blessed is he who glorifies and prays Allah during the Ramadan», he declared. According to him, good deeds result in blessing.
Several other faithful Muslims prayed for peace, security and stability in Togo. They also besought God’s protection for the Head of State and his family as well as good performance of the national football team, «Les Eperviers» during the 2006 World Cup in Germany and the ANC (African Nations Cup).
Popular rejoicings
After the prayers, the Muslims rejoiced at home and various other places including the beach of Lomé.
On that occasion, the NGO Africa Décor grasped at the opportunity to raise awareness on the bad effects of tobacco, alcohol and the great threat which HIV/AIDS constitutes to the mankind.
